Although we've discovered rocky, Earth-like exoplanets, astronomers haven't detected any with atmospheres. It's a difficult observation to make. Researchers think they've developed a new, simpler technique to learn if an exoplanet has an atmosphere. The technique involves measuring the combined temperature of a star and its exoplanet moments before the planet passes behind. If it's lower than expected, the planet probably has an atmosphere regulating its temperature.
