In the 1920's after World War I, The Great War, there was pervasive nihlism in Western culture. Artists had witnessed the absolute horrors of war. They'd been a part of the very worst aspects of life. They'd witnessed their friends get murdered by the war machine. They had post traumatic stress disorders and survivors guilt. What was the point of Art? What was the point of anything? Humans and humanity are disgusting. We fight and kill each other constantly. We are animated by base desires.

Art from this period was absurdist. Dada. There was no meaning. It was pointless, just like life itself. It was absurd and painful to look at, just like life itself. Why make art that was beautiful because in the end life is just suffering and pain.

Sometimes scrolling through my feed I have the sense we're stuck in a similar cultural moment.

You really posted that?

Our world is already full of trash, why do you want to add to it? Is that really your life's goal?

Our world is full of enough pain, enough tortutre. You want people scrolling to endure more? We all know life is terrible, we all are doing our best with the hand we were dealt. We all are doing our best to overcome our struggles, and you want to add to our burdens by filling our social media with this trash?

Why not choose to fill the world with more beauty? More small reminders life can have meaning and purpose. We can have hope. We can lift each other up, not constantly drag each other down. We can all support each other making our way through this nonsense called life.

That's all.

Peace friend. And Happy New Year ✌🎉
