Paid leave is assuming that a company has an obligation to pay you for your own life choices... the company isnt having the baby, it doesnt want or benefit from the baby, why should it have to fund your activities.
Now dont get me wrong I am 1200% behind the fact that if youare financially struggling with a kid the state should help you.. but I dont think a company should have any obligation to encourage you to have kids... if the company wants to as an incentive to hiring great.
Now I would agree that a new mother should have a right to unpaid leave that is short and reasonable without it being cause to fire someone... but financially, that baby is YOUR responsibility, not the companies.
