Our electoral system tends to give the rural vote disproportiate power, though. In the last election using the old system, in 1999, a rural vote on average had the power of 1.6 urban votes. IIRC that ratio was down to 1.3 in the last election
Effectively the rural vote gets more MPs for their share than the urban vote
