This will not fly in SA, most if not all apartments aka "townhouses" are part of body corporates and you know how those people are. Even in Cape Town, in Sunningdale, there's similar called HOAs, and what it boils down to is a bunch of old geriatrics lording over the majority and enforcing rules, your house can't look out of kilter etc.
You're not allowed to even put laundry on the balcony... what do you think will happen if solar panels are put there... Fines, brawls, and lawsuits.
