The longer you have a presence somewhere, the more people inevitably follow, and the more often you're sharing thoughts with people you don't know.
You reach a limit of how many you can follow while actually keeping up. Cool people follow you, but you can't reciprocate. Or you follow someone you think is cool, but they don't have space for you.
