I wish scientists would attempt to develop and evaluate tests for autism and ADHD that seriously considered the internal experiences of teenagers and adults with autism, ADHD, BPD, etc.
- Questions shouldn't validate the bigotry of people who hate us.
- Questions shouldn't prioritize indirect measures that are external evaluations of us by NTs, like "behavior" and "personality".
- Questions should prioritize direct measures that only the person taking the test can answer, like sensory experiences and emotions.
- Questions should describe experiences in the language that neurodivergent people use.
- Questions should include very common comorbidities, and physiological symptoms where possible.
- Questions should minimize how much they center childhood, and not phrase questions about childhood in a dehumanizing way.
