we as a culture decided that dropping in unannounced was annoying and rather than adopting the obvious remedy of simply announcing oneself via any of the instantaneous communication methods we have at our disposal, many of us instead decided that the answer is to live far enough away that visiting itself is inconvenient (even, funnily enough, when a visit is planned well in advance!)
i am sure this has had absolutely zero ramifications on community development and the nature of relationships with extended family though so don't worry dog
