Hey Jon, definitely also an early riser here. I have this weird thing where I wake up even earlier when I go to bed late... I go to bed at 10 and I can sleep until 6 or seven, but if I go to bed at 12 or later I'll be up at 5, dead tired but not able to go back to sleep. Very annoying... but yes, early bird here.
I read the book "Why We Sleep" by Matthew Walker a few years ago, and he argues it's genetic. There's people who are early birds and people who are night owls (and some are in between). But if you're an early bird, you can't force yourself to be a night owl, you'll just end up being sleep deprived and miserable all the time because you don't get enough sleep.
So you're doing the right thing, accept that that's how you are and make the best of it.
