The US flag was flying outside Newcastle Civic Centre (the seat of the city council) when I passed earlier. In honour of Jimmy Carter, who visited Newcastle in 1977, while he was President, and later returned in 1987. Newcastle has considered him an honorary Geordie since his first visit, and that trapezoid shaped white stone thing in the bottom left of the picture commemorates the 1977 visit. There were flowers around it today. #JimmyCarter
