Also, army ant queens are simply too large to fly. So, they found their colonies by "budding" -- young queens split off with some of the workers from larger colonies when a colony gets massive enough.
The males can fly, just. They are huge and nick-named "sausage flies" because of their robust shape. And maybe for other reasons.
