I first learnt about the quadratic function from Jamie, my data analysis professor. He helped me understand the concept.
I studied acting too and was surprised to learn that this is how I tend to break a script down. It’s never linear, always nonlinear. I tend to have a habit of looking at a film to see if the glass is full behind the eyes in a scene. You can usually tell if an actor has done the homework, a recent example I think would be Demi Moore in ‘Substance’, the bathroom scene after Dennis Quaid finishes his monologue on the mobile, her reactions in the mirror - no words, just wow. Some great actors can do it so well -Gene Hackman (the French connection), Robert De Niro (Cape Fear, I mean just wow), Gena Rowlands (A Woman Under the Influence), Sally Hawkins (the shape of water), Bette Davis (Of Human Bondage), Meg Ryan and Tom hanks ( sleepless in Seattle and you’ve got mail), James Stewart - like everything he has done, Daniel Day- Lewis (There will be blood), Philip Seymour Hoffman - like everything he does, Jimmy dean (rebel without a cause) and Marilyn Monroe (misfits), so many and too many to name here.
The French call it “deuxième degré” meaning to the second degree.
I just never knew maths explained it too:
𝑌 = 𝑏 + 𝑚1𝑋 + 𝑚2𝑋^2
