My experience using #SimpleX chat:
- The version number of the Nix package cannot be evaluated without bootstraping a custom GHC build
- Servers are configured by an interactive process hardcoded in Haskell
- File-transfers work between clients but not across local filesystems (move by rename bug)
- SOCKS proxying is supported, but only if the SOCKS server is a local tor instance
- Works great in London
- Works not at all in Russia
I recommend avoiding Simplex until upstream can align their opinions with what would be reasonably correct implementation details.
