til: there's an economics paper published 2010, after the 2008 crisis, arguing that high debt is horrible, and that states which adopt austerity measures to reduce debt come out of recession faster. the paper is based on an excel spreadsheet, performing calculations based on historical data -- and fails to apply the excel formula to the whole column (in addition to selectively excluding some historical data). the whole argument falls apart when you do.
