Versatile Video Coding (VVC), also known as H.266, has the ability to stream from 4K all the way up to 16K. As the name suggests, the VVC video codec is very versatile. It can support everything from ultra-low to ultra-high resolution videos.
Support for VVC was added in FFmpeg 7.0. The lastest version of FFmpeg 7.1 has declared VVC decoding stable.
While some video streaming platforms like YouTube are currently testing out VVC support, VVC is still not officially supported.
