Why so much focus on emoji? Emoji are cognitive shortcuts. True, the meaning shifts. There is an entire ecosystem of searches for stuff like "what does a boy/girl mean with <emoji here> emoji?" etc. But, like the WWW intent, within a particular domain, as long as it is roughly inline w/ the pictograph, it works for cognition better than words.
