This past weekend I hit a benchmark in my #gardening journey.
I planted 140 cloves of hardneck garlic into newly established in ground growing bed. I prepped the bed with a broadfork to penetrate and loosen and compaction layers, then applied biochar that I made myself from brush on my homestead. The biochar was inoculated with vermicompost extract from my worm bin. After applying the biochar and remaining vermicompost extract I lightly raked the top layer of soil and planted the garlic. Once all the garlic was in a mulched it with the first batch of thermophilic compost I made earlier this spring and have been letting age throughout summer.
Ultimately this is probably a small step but being able to produce fertility onsite to grow nutrient dense food is a goal I’ve been working toward for 3 years.
Praise God for the sharing of knowledge and skills across the internet especially from platforms like #nostr and podcasts
Special shoutout to my daughter for helping distribute the compost.
