Today the discourse appears to be about some sort of MAGA bullshit involving Haitian immigrants eating pets.
But here's the thing: I'm so old I remember my elders routinely cracking jokes about getting served cats in Chinese restaurants. It was a whole thing: making cracks about how we never see any cats near Chinese restaurants, poking at the meat in the buffet and meowing, etc.
It took hearing the tropes recycled for me to realize I hadn't heard the old ones for years.
