I dropped out of physics and became a roboticist (with a background in electrical engineering) because physics involves a way of thinking about problems that is largely antithetical to how my brain intuitively thinks about problems. I could learn it, but doing the work was like running barefoot over gravel. EE was like gamboling in a grassy field by comparison.
If someone tried to give me a prize in physics, I would be deeply suspicious of their motives.
