Ah-hah. This could be why Invidious devs are getting cease and desist letters, and why the performance of that and the other privacy front-ends for YT has been getting patchier. If I can't browse YT and watch videos with my choice of app and configuration, it's no longer "YouTube", it's "ThemTube" and I'll just refuse to use it.
