Programmers' workflow doesn't break if they can't access the internet, and if the company that provides their source control servers goes away, it's simplicity itself to move onto another server provider.
This isn't The Cloud, it's just "the cloud" - that whiteboard glyph from the days of the old, good internet - freely interchangeable, eminently fungible, disposable and replaceable.
