Comte de Sats Germain on Nostr: Layer 2 wouldn't help with mining, and if Earth/Luna are the only places where mining ...

Layer 2 wouldn't help with mining, and if Earth/Luna are the only places where mining is viable, then all other locations in Sol system will effectively exist as dependents/protectorates/colonies - which is great at first, but surely sets the stage for conflict later. Mars is especially rich is deuterium, so they're going to want to mine. If all blocks are mined on earth, future capital will concentrate on Earth, which will mean lower prices on earth / higher prices elsewhere - which would happen anyways, but that will exacerbate it - and that will disincentivuze space colonization.

Its possible that bitcoin will trap us on Earth, even if we develop the technology to easily leave.

On the other hand, by making mining only viable on earth, we protect our economy from potential alien disruption. Did you see that video of the sphere sucking plasma off the sun? Maybe its fake - idk - but it was pulled off a NASA webpage. That thing, or anything like it that might show up, is a real danger. By keeping mining only on earth, we at least have protection against reorg attacks happening somewhere else in the solar system.

IMO, we have to colonize the inner solar system before we think about mining outside the earth-luna system. All of it...

Its not impossible to mine off earth - just improbable. Some blocks take a couple of hours to be found. Its just probability. A mine somewhere in the inner solar system could find a block outside the 10 min average. But there is no chance that a miner could do a reorg of the chain if their latency is greater than 10 min.

So maybe its a feature, not a bug, for a couple thousand years.
