I doubt it is via their ISP
Yes, the police have powers under the UK's Investigatory Powers Act 2016, but obtaining this kind of information would require use of Internet connection records, and none of the conditions of access in s62 fit on these facts, IMHO.
It would require the proposed "target discovery" condition, in the IPA amendment bill currently going through Parliament.
A compromise of the site's security? Possibly but unlikely?
