10 years ago, on Independence Day, I released the world's first artist cryptocurrency, @tatianacoin using the @CounterpartyXCP, which is a meta protocol on top of #bitcoin (before ordinals, runes, etc)
It allowed me to create an album fully funded by the $ raised with the sale of the coin called "Keep the Faith". This record (my 3rd independent release) had artwork from a drawing I received from @Free_Ross (a repurposed birthday gift). See the art below and take a listen to "the Silk Road" online... #freeross
The reason I was excited about using this art was because I wanted to show how important it was for artists to have freedom of expression, and I knew that if I was signed to a label, they probably wouldn't allow for artwork by a political prisoner... they would much rather promote music like WAP or whatever idiocy they are pushing down our throats.
This is not OK. F the music industry.
When I was a little girl, I listened to Cat Steven's Peace Train, and I knew music had a higher purpose and could help make the world a better place...
But we can't record for free, music isn't made for free, and artists are dying on the vine hoping for the support of fans. We are conflicted though, not knowing where our next meal will come from as there are fewer ways to monetize.
Some say oh you have Spotify now, blah blah. Well, they don't pay well, it's near impossible to get to the right amount of plays to make it remotely financially worthwhile, with no end to that in sight. Plus having to create content constantly is time consuming and keeps us chained to rigged social media companies, begging for someone to like a picture of us in a bikini or cooking some food or fronting to be cool, instead of actually making art. We just feel compelled to shill dumb crap :( And it's hard to tell if what we are doing even has an impact...
I am glad these ideas around tokenization continue to grow, though I wish the tools were there to make it easier for normies to participate, which was always my dream.
I look forward to the new developments at XCP, and with the space in general, because artist's voices are more important now than ever.
I will be sharing more about my journey going forward these next couple of months, maybe selling some Tatiana Coin even to fund my 5th album, though admittedly the ROI on making a record is negative :/
I guess the songs need to be heard though, so I will keep doing my best <3
If you like my music and want to support my work, go to my website (which I can't drop here since I am sure the algos will crush me as usual) and keep in touch...
Thank you everyone for the years of good memories!
