Dating rock imagery is very hard. And subsequent peoples often create imagery over existing images for whatever purpose, no one knows for sure. I find it fun to look at. However, I try to refrain from interpreting it out of respect for the person who drew it. There's no way to know what they were thinking or why they drew the images.
