The spare bean on a cat's leg is actually their vestigial palm. Their paws are constructed in such a way that they have their weight on the joint between the metacarpals and proximal phalanges, which means their digits bend backwards in a way humans' do not. The extra upper bean is located at the joint between the metacarpals and carpals, which means it's properly their palm, though I suppose one could call it the heel of their hand.
Just thought you should know.
