If you want to praise Jimmy Carter, pick his best achievements: personally leading the work to contain the nuclear reactor meltdown at Chalk River in 1952, then after his presidency, leading the effort to exterminate Guinea worm, the cause of a hideous disabling disease that—thanks to his work—we've mostly forgotten.
Those two acts alone (he did other good deeds) are nearly enough to balance the scales against having been a US president (an office which is inherently toxic and destructive).
