Ultimately I think the thing that bothers me most about this nonsense is the same thing that bothers me about iMessage and having GIFs and stickers by default in gboard: an operating system should be a neutral commodity which does the bare minimum needed to allow the user to view and edit basic files and install better apps. It's a base layer. But of course the companies selling them need some USP, so instead of that, they load the OS with nonsense. And once they're in the nonsense industry, they want you using *their* nonsense, and you end up with a walled garden where suddenly your computer is giving the orders instead of taking them. The default image editor that ships with Windows shouldn't have generative AI in it, but equally it shouldn't have a library of 3d models and they did that too. Put that stuff in the Store, that's what it's for
