This year has been the most abrupt autumnal switchover I can remember, hard to believe the orchard at work had trees laden with plums, pigeons nesting and even warmth enough for an apple tree to give a second blossom- just two week ago. Now it's bloody freezing and I've dug out the wool blankets and sheepskin slippers!
