I'd argue that people's relationships to violence is what defines political ideology best, with "we need violence to maintain order" being the essence of conservatism, as that "order" is the status quo.
This makes practicing law perfect for conservatives, because under such a practice, violence is inevitable. I'd imagine it to be very difficult to hold onto abolitionist principles when one's livelihood is dependent on violence being necessary.
