I never minded (or even knew about) rust's excessive compilation system requirements until I had no avenue to install a program but to compile it myself through cargo. Cargo *does* make the process pretty simple, but it's stll very painful from a system-requirements perspective. It wouldn't compile on a system with only 4GB of RAM, and that's what a lot of my machines have.
