YA books weren't much of a thing when I was in my early teens. I remember liking a few Robert Cormier novels, a few Paul Zindel books, but loathing nearly everything else in the age range (Fifteen by Beverly Cleary sent me into a rage--Jane and her stupid gladiolas)--I mostly read Stephen King instead.
The one meant-for-kids series I did like was the Trixie Belden series--I consider them the bridge that led me to horror when I was in elementary school.
