I had a discussion with my atheist grandfather about the idea of an eternal universe vs a created one. He didn't seem to understand the fact that an infinite amount of time and past events is impossible. So, I explained it like I literally did back when I was teaching children's ministry.
Q: You're standing in line at the grocery store and the person in front of you has an infinite amount of groceries in their cart. When will it be your turn to check out?
The answer of course is never as you'll never reach the end of infinity. So to, those who claim that the universe is eternal must deal with this logic problem and come to grips that there hasn't been an infinite amount of past events evidenced by the fact that you are right here, right now, in time.
