When I was younger, the USA was keeping up with the Joneses in Europe, getting similar increases in life expectancy with increases in per capita health care expenditures. You can see exactly where our trajectory diverged: the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980, and the transformation of the post-World-War-2 ISA economy from one which benefitted all of us into one which allowed the oligarchs to siphon off our wealth. Now, they take more and more of our money, and we get worse and worse healthcare outcomes.
