The slave trade was a colonial venture of many European powers and thanks to antisemitic laws barring jews from other occupations, they finances some ships and most slavers were European while only a tiny minority of Jewish people had anything to do with it. Also, it's reasonable for Jewish people to boycott Germany when an antisemitic party takes power. It doesn't really constitute a declaration of war and that newspaper line was obviously being hyperbolic.
