When I read stuff like this I remember a friend's kid who said, "Dad needs to stop bullying Mom, & Mom needs to stand up to Dad"
From the kid's POV I can see why they hold each parent equally responsible—all the kid knows is that both parents have an obligation to keep them safe, whatever that entails. [And very often, kids in abusive homes blame Mom more because unlike Dad, Mom is "reasonable"]
But only one parent is culpable for the harm, and NYT pundits need to grow the fuck up
