So I was doing my morning round of the fedi, and I caught this statement by Tim Chambers, the admin of indieweb, coming out in support of the dev making the fedi bluesky bridge.
What strikes me the most is that he does not care about the harm this project will instigate and simply dismisses concerns about it because of his personal connection with the dev.
His statement provides a great illustration of the divide between devs who are white men and everyone else. Many of them do not have the capacity to consider the experiences of anyone else who is not like them and are actively working to recreate the toxic networks while allegedly advocating for a better fedi.
I had my doubts about the indie web, which is why I kept my distance, but Tim’s statement made it clear they are more concerned about making the internet safe for white people exclusively.
From now on, I will be limiting that instance’s interaction with h.i., and indie web will not be an org I will consider working with.
