The reason to learn about ordinals is simple civic responsibility - if the chain is being used for anything new, it is better to stay abreast of happenings.
It is also useful to dispel FUD, e.g the notion that ordinals are an attack on fungibility (they’re not) and and also hype, e.g the notion that ordinals will save bitcoin’s “security budget” (there is no such thing)
There is an argument to be made that the opportunity cost of learning about ordinals is too high relative to any gains, but this can’t be known ex ante.
