Thanks đ ,but watch this video I found of blood cells swelling due to osmosis.
The white cells show gradual expansion of a smooth round cell and then a sudden burst of the cell.
But it looks like there is quite thick cell wall like structure around the cell which gives way. This allows the softer contents inside the cell to come out leaving the âcell wallâ reasonably intact !
Even more interesting is what happens to the red cells. They appear to gradually SHRINK before fading away. There is nothing like a âburstingâ. It looks like they are âdissolvingâ !
Compare their sizes at 0:03 and 0:58. But notice that they become slowly less distinct.
It doesnât look like the cell membrane has much to do with what is happening here in my opinion.
