Society is Cynical and Nihilistic, people go through day to day hating it, with no purpose, so they get angry, and think "why care" and give up, the true rebels are the ones who don't give up, the ones who still care about how they look and how the act, and how they're perceived by people and their communities, eventually more people would start to care, given purpose and direction.
