I just read an article that discussed how MIT research thinks they identified how it was made. The mixture was mixed at really high temperatures and there were intentionally larger chunks of lime left in so that if cracks formed they would form a long the line and heal the concrete from the water and lime reacting. I thought it was pretty interesting. The article was a click baity thing so I didn't want to link it here. #romanconcrete #howoftendoyouthinkoftheromans #ancienttechnology #concrete
