(Yes, technically used cooking oil can be used, but there are loads of things that work)
If it sees a lot of dust and dirty during use, a dry lube would avoid attracting more grit and making things worse.
(Lightning or 3-in-One "100% dry to touch" are a couple I keep on hand for those conditions)
