2400 baud on a 286 and a 68020 based Mac when I was around 10 years old.
free AOL hours and my friend lending me his Prodigy account. downloading shareware at 1 megabyte per hour.
around 1998 I got a job making pizza and saved up for an iMac and an ISP. back when an ISP would give you free email and web hosting. JPS.NET was I think $11 a month. they have long since gone defunct though.
