Rusty Corgi on Nostr: Nothing has made me more disenchanted with leftists than how they talk about Kamala ...

Nothing has made me more disenchanted with leftists than how they talk about Kamala Harris. There's a trend we discussed in sociology about how white progressives will think of themselves as having such a moral high ground that they couldn't possibly be racist, even when their actions clearly come from a place of bigotry.

So far, the leftist discourse I've seen around Kamala is so keen on using black and PoC suffering as a prop for why you shouldn't vote for her, while completely ignoring the real harm it would do to marginalized communities by not voting for her. So much of it is complete misinformation and entirely lacking in any kind of empathy for people who were oppressed under systemic racism and queerphobia and instead uses their suffering as some kind of gotcha. "You obviously don't care about PoC suffering if you're willing to vote for a *cop*."

Y'know, I'm sorry, but I'm gonna vote for the person who is pushing for the return of woman bodily autonomy in the face of a man who is proud of the fact that he forced 12 year old rape victims to carry their rapist's baby to term. I'm going to vote for the person who has pushed for a ceasefire in Gaza instead of the person who moved the damn embassy to Jerusalem. I'm going to vote for the woman who wants to see rights returned to queer and especially trans people at the national level, instead of the guy who literally banned trans people from the military and installed the most christofascist judiciary the US has ever seen. I'm going to vote for the prosecutor who reformed criminal justice to focus on reduced recidivism rates and vacating criminal records for drug possession and is also calling for the decriminalization of marijuana, instead of the man who called repeatedly for the death of black men who had already been proven innocent.

If you want to use PoC suffering as a prop but aren't willing to do the bare minimum effort of preventing a racist, misogynistic christofascist from achieving power, you don't get to claim the moral high ground. I firmly believe that people have a right to vote for whomever they want, but they do not get to claim the moral high ground when they think detached a moral-purity-fueled-apathy to politics is a solution instead of the selfishness it truly is. If you can't see how much more impactful electing someone who wants to give more rights to everyone in this country is than allowing a wannabe fascist who idolizes Putin, Erdogan, Orban, etc to be elected, then you are even more short-sighted than the filthy capitalists who can't see any repercussions beyond the current quarterly earnings report. It doesn't demonstrate moral character to not vote for Kamala, it demonstrates a distinct lack of empathy for Americans who are suffering the most under what Trump did to this country, while being completely ignorant of all the important policies Kamala wants to enact given the opportunity to do so.

To be clear, I am still a leftist socialist. I just don't like a lot of people in my cohort right now. :neofox_what: Just because I support someone who isn't a socialist like me doesn't mean I get my lefty card revoked, no matter how many leftists say otherwise. I don't want to see even more lives ruined by a second term from this monster, and I am frankly excited for what President Coconut Trees can bring to the country.
