More on Peter Lynch, Lynch did not participate in any physical violence, as confirmed by Judge Richardson himself at the sentencing hearing.
the 61-year-old grandfather who reportedly took his life last Saturday after being jailed for violent disorder during the protests/riots that followed the Southport child murders...
At his sentencing hearing, Judge Jeremy Richardson KC called Lynch a "full participant".
"You were unquestionably endeavoring to rev up the situation the best you could", he said.
At the protest/riot, Lynch held a placard which called police officers, MPs, and the media "corrupt".
He was also heard shouting at officers: "You are protecting people who are killing our kids and raping them"
Footage showed him standing still when police officers were shouting at him to "get back". After refusing to move, an officer can be seen hitting him with a riot shield. Lynch then pushes back after police initiated physical contact. He then goes on to shout "scum".
Lynch was in attendance of a protest outside a hotel in Rotherham which housed "asylum seekers".
The protest turned into a riot where some attendees set fire to the hotel. 64 police officers were injured as well as 4 dogs and a horse.
But here's the thing...
Lynch did not participate in any physical violence, as confirmed by Judge Richardson himself at the sentencing hearing.
There is also no reference to him explicitly encouraging violence.
It was all about his non-violent conduct, which the judge said led to others committing violence, as if he had concrete proof Lynch's actions directly influenced others.
Note Lynch pled guilty to violent disorder - maybe due to cost worries, the promise of a more lenient sentence, who knows.
But despite all of this, Judge Richardson gave him a whopping 2 years and 8 months jail sentence.
Per the sentencing council guidelines, which set out terms relative to the severity of the offence, it looks like the maximum sentence Lynch should have received is 2 years.
That's if we're taking an establishment-sympathetic view.
Lynch was one of dozens and dozens of Brits who have been punished with extreme harshness for relatively minor offences compared to others who have committed much more serious crimes and received lenient sentences.
Lynch struggled with diabetes, thyroid issues, and angina (chest pain caused by lack of oxygen rich blood).
He had been married for 36 years, had 4 children and 3 grandchildren. He worked in the packing industry but had been made redundant before his sentencing hearing last month.
How the judge could call him a "full participant" when he committed no violence (nor explicitly encouraged it) in a protest turned riot where other individuals set fire to a hotel beggars belief...
