Growing up in East Block Hungary, I was keenly aware of low technology all around me. Bikes, vacuums, cameras were all crap... Traded goods from "the West" were superior. Globalization was very desirable!
Fast-forward 40 years. "The West" has de-industrialized. I'm browsing Amazon for bikes, vacuums, cameras and it's a shitshow of worthless goods with random letter sequences for brand names.
We've come full circle, from autarkic crapware to globalized crapware, and this makes me sad.
