I don't know why anyone is surprised that government-mandated pay increases for fast food workers and delivery app drivers has resulted in depressed customer activity in both sectors. It was inevitable that these firms would pass along those increases as higher food prices and delivery fees, and this is a pretty clear demonstration that to a large extent these sectors are, as we say in economics, very elastic. For most people, they are not necessities, and beyond certain price points they just stop buying.
