These are the most basic tips I can give anyone on cooking their Turkey.
1. Don’t over cook the bird! If you have a thermometer take the temp from a few spots in the leg thigh area . it’s finished when it’s around 165 degrees. Let it rest 15 or so minutes after cooking. The plastic poppers are usually set to pop at 180 degrees, the breast is dry by then. Pull out the plastic popper and plug the hole with a garlic clove.
2. Butter under the skin. Oil salt and pepper on the skin. Preheat oven to 500 and cook for 15-20 mins to brown then Drop the temp to 350 and finish cooking. After the first hour of cooking check the internal temperature, see step one.
3. Don’t put stuffing in the turkey, instead use something like large cuts of apple, orange, onion, herbs, cinnamon sticks, carrots, celery just as aromatics in the cavity.
I would add that I always Brine my bird the day before, if you have time for that it makes a huge difference. 🦃
