I actually think out TV and films and other fiction have done us a disservice over the years by being increasingly "nuanced" and "complex" and convincing us all that simple good and evil don't exist and that people aren't actually crazy or divorced from reality.
We were totally unprepared, on a psychological level, for the realization that none of that is true.
