I suppose one way is to review the code or the information provided by the developer. In looking at the GitHub repo for gossip (
https://github.com/mikedilger/gossip/blob/master/README.md) I found this statement: "Gossip handles private keys as securely as reasonable (short of hardware tokens), keeping them encrypted under a passphrase on disk, requiring that passphrase on startup, and zeroing memory." which is reassuring. Will keep digging.
